There by Geoff Saunders (play reading & bar night)

  • Putney Arts Theatre

PTC members are invited to come along for a play reading and bar night on Friday 21 February at Putney Arts Theatre, from 7.30pm.

The play

There, by Geoff Saunders, is set in London and tells the stories of four friendships between adults.

Adam and Lucas find their new friendship tested when they discover they have very different values.

Kate finds Kirsty’s concern for her overbearing, even obsessive.

Sophie helps out Tanya and soon realises that Tanya will say anything to get what she wants.

Philip develops a powerful crush on his colleague, Jon, and puts their friendship in jeopardy.

The play starts with the birth of one friendship and finishes with the end of another; in between, many themes are explored, including obsession, race, political correctness, substance abuse, truth, lies, loyalty, treachery and forgiveness. It’s mainly a comedy.

The reading

This reading, in the PAT bar, is an informal event for which there will not be auditions.

If you’d like to take part as a reader, please come along at 7.30pm, let us know you’d like to read and you’ll be allocated a part (or a share of a part if there are lots of participants). The reading will start at 8.00pm; this will give you a chance to get familiar with the text so you won’t be reading it out ‘cold’. If you’d like to read the script in advance, please contact Geoff Saunders: yerf@hotmail.co.uk

The characters are in their 30s and 40s, but don’t let that put you off from offering to read; all are welcome. Lucas is of Jamaican heritage and Adam is White British; the other characters can be played by people of any nationality or heritage, reflecting the diversity of 21st-century London.
